Three-phase converters and line simulators were developed as part of this project to implement a scaled-down version of a multi terminal HVDC grid. 

Main innovations: 

  • Problem: The growing deployment of offshore wind farms usually represent a need for submarine DC lines where classic power flow control schemes are not applicable. 

  • Solution: Develop and prototype in laboratory a multi-terminal DC network with realistic scaled-down parameters, to demonstrate newly developed control methods designed specifically for the characteristics of the network and the generator.

  • Control of offshore wind farms with electronic-coupled generators 

  • Control of DC network in general, with special interest in multi-terminal configurations
